Midland Divison 5 Champions

Shrewsbury AC senior track and field team held on for the Title of Division 5 at Leamington on the first weekend of August. Shrewsbury finished 3rd on the day, with the women taking more of the honours over a slightly depleted Men’s Team. As we finished ahead of Stratford, we were confirmed as Champions.

SAC Running Report 9/8/10

After a string of fell race victories this season, more recently 1st place in the Skiddaw Fell Race and 2nd place in the Moel Siabod Race in 47/10, Shrewsbury Athletic Club star Steve Cale used his debut appearance in the Snowdon Race to demonstrate his abilities on the international fell scene. On the day, Steve stormed to 9th place in 1/12/19 and in doing so, finished ahead of a host of international runners running for England, Scotland, Wales and the continent.

There were successful runs for Kevin Francis, finishing 56th in 1/26/34 and 5th in the Veteran over 40 category and club captain Graham Jones 80th in 1/30/10 and 2nd in the Veteran over 50 category, with Leo Murray 223rd in 1/46/09. Anna Bartlett, selected again to run for Wales, finished 8th in the Ladies International Race in a time of 1/33/10, a fine performance in conditions of strong winds and driving rain.

On the Sexarathon scene, Pete Middleton continued his challenge for a podium spot in the series, with an outstanding 3rd place at the Vic Musgrove Fast 5K, in 15/50, keeping him in 3rd spot in the series with one race to go. Kevin Francis , having his best season to date, finished 14th in 16/59 and 1st Vet over 40, keeping him in that spot for the series and Steve Waters, moving further up the finishing order with each race, finished 19th in 17/19.

In the Ladies Race, Claire Burgoyne produced another fine display, finishing 2nd in the Ladies Race in 18/39, maintaining 1st spot in the series.

In the Summer Fell Series, Juan Castillo continued his successful season, with 6th spot in the Stiperstones Race in 30/18, with Graham Jones 10th in 31/56 and 1st Vet over 50, Kevin Francis 12th in 32/00 and 2nd Vet over 40, and Anna Bartlett 11th in 34/09 and 1st Lady.
