Shrewsbury Athletic Club's Tim Smith continued his successful campaign
in the Telford Athletic Club Sexarathon Road Race Series with a 17th
placing in the Ironbridge 4 Mile Race in 25/47, an improvement of some
30 places since the start of the Series, consolidating his 3rd place in
the Veteran Over 40 category with two more races to go. Grant Lloyd was 40th in 27/28 and 2nd in the Veteran Over 35 Category and Emma Sheekey, 140th in 35/35.
On the fell running scene, Tim Viner and Sean Hickey had notable runs
in the Rodneys Pillar Race, with Viner 5th in 26/42 and Hickey 14th in
29/37. In the Pontesbury Hill Race, Dom Kirby was 11th in 23/52 and Dan Croft 13th and 3rd Veteran over 45 in 24/05.
Further afield, a hardy bunch of runners travelled to Snowdonia to
compete in the inaugural Trail Marathon Wales race, a full marathon off
road course, taking in some of the most demanding and picturesque
aspects of the Coed y Brenin forest in the Snowdonia National Park,
including 4000 feet of ascents.With club runners lining up alongside
elite international runners, Dom Kirby ran an outstanding race to
finish 18th in 3 hours 53 minutes 31 seconds, with club captain Graham
Jones 26th in 4 hours 2 minutes 17 seconds and 4th Veteran over 50 and
Steve Oliver 126th in 5 hours 8 minutes 26 seconds.
In West Wales, Dom Kirby was 34th in the Barcud Coch 11 Mile Multi
Terrain Race, part of the Red Kite Challenge Weekend, while son Ross
finished 2nd in the Junior Race , part of the Junior Welsh Trail
Championships in 21/04.

MAD JACK'S '5' ENTRIES NOW BEING TAKEN
This year's Mad Jack's '5' race which is promoted by Shrewsbury Athletic Club in conjunction with the National Trust, takes place on SATURDAY 10TH NOVEMBER (11am). Severn Loop Summer 5K Report 23/6/12
Despite unfavourable weather conditions and an England fixture in the European Football Championships, 75 runners turned out for Shrewsbury Athletic Club's staging of their Severn Loop Summer 5K Race in Shrewsbury's Quarry Park. Joe Brocklehurst, the previous race winner and current course record holder , who has moved to Shrewsbury and is now running for Shrewsbury AC, quickly established a significant lead and won comfortably by over a minute in 15/42, followed by Justin Goodall, unattached, in 2nd place in 16/56 and evergreen veteran, Tony Power, Telford Athletic Club, 3rd in 17/28.

Emily Dare of Whitchurch Whippets ran out comfortable winner of the Womens' race in 20/07, followed by Gill Evans of Shepshed AC in 2nd place in 21/13 and Claire Pugh of SYTri, 3rd in 22/15. As with previous races, there was a notable number of unattached runners, on this occasion once again comprising almost half of the field. This time, the race numbers were bolstered by the appearance of a sizeable team from the newly formed Shrewsbury Running Buddies, many of whom were competing for the first time and all of whom completed the course under the expert guidance of coach Dionne Burgoyne. Once again, there was an enthusiastic turnout of 19 young runners for the Junior 2K race, with Sam Johnson, comfortable winner of the Boys' race , Archie Orme 2nd and Fergus Downes 3rd and Girls race winner Jazmine Maddocks, followed in 2nd place by Melissa Pugh and Rachael Johnson 3rd.
