Midlands Cross Country Champs

Leamington Spa was the location for the Midlands XC championships on Saturday 27th January.
Shrewsbury AC took a small team to the event today and what we lacked in quantity we certainly made up for in quality. The athletes worked really hard and we came away with not one, but two Midland medals!!
First up was Megan in the U13 girls. Megan suffered from knee pain during the race, but continued to battle and came home in 44th. She should be proud of herself for carrying on when many would have given up. Well done Megan!
In the U13 boys we had Charlie, Rufus and Oscar (all lower U13). Unfortunately for Rufus, he went through the ditch and turned his ankle and could not continue. He was in good spirits at the end and I’m sure he will be back next week for a great performance in the schools race. The start of this race saw a lot of push and shoving but Oscar and Charlie were able to work hard and both ran superbly. Oscar came home in 6th and Charlie came home in 42nd. Well done boys!
Chloe and Elsa ran in the U15 girls race! Chloe ( lower U15) had to battle hard to secure a top 3 position which saw her bagging bronze and Shrewsbury their first medal of the day. Elsa ran a great race. She was able to push on and keep with the group she was with on the home straight, coming 36th. She kept it going even though she wasn’t feeling great today. Smashing stuff girls!
Sam was our only boy in the U15 boys race and he did what he has done all season, got stuck in and battled hard throughout. Sam came 37th today in a really big field. This was a fantastic performance.
Last up was Beth (lower year U17) in the U17 girls. Beth was up against one of the worlds best U17 girls in this race. Beth was able to come home second today a good distance ahead of third, grabbing herself and the club a silver medal.
The team were amazing today and it makes us really excited about the national XC finals at the end of next month at Weston Park.
Well done everyone!
