National Primary School and Yr 7 Cross Country Championships

07 Mar 2024
On Sunday 3rd March a small number of our athletes ventured to Prestwold Hall to race in the in their school year national championships. It was a cold, but relatively dry day, but conditions were far from optimal. There were puddles that more resembled ponds and wellies, shoes, spikes and even socks were scattered around the course in the very boggy ground during the day. They had a runner running after the kids picking them all up. You will see from the photo how amazing the ground conditions were.
Our first runners were in the YR5 girls race which had over 250 girls and it was absolutely stacked with talent. Norah Kohring was first home for us in 45th place. An amazing achievement considering she ran a race the day previously. What makes this an even better performance is that Norah was quite badly spiked on her Achilles during the race, but like the true trooper she is, she got on with it and finished amazingly.
Also in this race was Indie-Rose Preston-Pryce who came in 149th. An amazing performance from Indie-Rose considering this would have been no doubt the biggest event she had ever entered. We have some great action shots from Indie-Rose in full flight.
In the YR5 Boys race we had Ben Kohring and Harry Coss. These boys are regularly separated by mere seconds at the junior parkrun and there was no surprise that they were right with each other at the finish line with Ben coming 154th and Harry 156th. Another great performance from these two considering the ground was by now a mud pit.
Our final competitor of the day was Roni Kohring, who had won national gold the day before. An amazing performance from Roni who finished 6th in another very talented field. For a little context in this race, the winner of this race is the world record holder for a 10yr old at parkrun (18:13) and the second placed finisher is the world record holder for a 10yr old over 600m (1:41) so this age group is very top heavy with superstars for their age group.
Future SAC runner William ran in the Yr 3 boys fun run and also did amazing. He is going to follow in his brothers footsteps.
Amazing running from all involved today.
