Shrewsbury Athletic Club runners turned out in force for the popular Dearnford Lake Relays at Whitchurch, with the team race comprising three legs each of approximately two miles around the lake and 101 teams entered on the night. There were some memorable performances from the six Club teams of three runners who competed, with Club teams taking 1st and 2nd place in the Mixed Team event for the second successive year, 2th, 7th and 8th in the Men's Team event and 15th in the Women's team event.

 

Mixed Team Results:

1st Team: Connor Middleton 10/26, Jo Sutton 11/46, Robert Fox 10/29. 2nd Team: Lauren Morley 12/10, Charlie Lisney 11/37, Nick Bradley 10/39.

 

Mens' Team Results:

2nd Team: Luke Butler 10/14, Steve Waters 10/28, Scott Hall 10/09. 7th Team: Kevin Francis 11/19, Stewart Farley 10/57, Graham Jones 11/44, 8th Team: Pete Hughes 11/49, Simon Cole 12/16, Carl Aveyard 11/00

 

Womens' Team Results:

15th Team: Lucy Grayston 13/33, Beth Pinder 16/55, Grace Hough 21/38.

 

Three Club runners competed in the Cheadle 4 Mile Race, the 12th fixture in the North Staffordshire Road Runners Association Series, with Steve Waters 10th in 23/26, Kevin Francis 21st and 1st Veteran Over 50 in 24/41 and Stewart Farley 26th in 25/24. Paul Jones finished 14th and 1st Veteran Over 45 in the Sale Sizzler 5K race in Manchester in 15/56 and Graham Jones was 15th and 2nd Veteran Over 60 in the Middletown Show Hill Race in 48/17.

 

The third fixture of the Midland Track and Field League Division 6 took place at Nuneaton, where the Men's Team finished 4th and the Women's Team 6th. In the Men's match, there were victories for James Hickinbottom in the High Jump B and Javelin A, Patrick McBride in the 110m Hurdles A and Charlie Rogers in the 800m B. In the Women's match, Rebecca Walker won the High Jump A, while Pat Higgins and Emily McBride between them covered nine of the events on the day. The final fixture takes place at Kettering on Sunday 5th August.
