It proved to be a successful day for Shrewsbury Athletic Club runners in the annual Shrewsbury Half Marathon, with over 1500 runners taking part and in favourable weather conditions, with Paul Jones winning the race in 1/14/10 and 1st Veteran Over 45 and Sara Willhoit second in the Womens' Race in 1/28/57, both athletes in peak form, having produced successful performances three weeks earlier in the Edinburgh Marathon. There were other age category victories for Pete Middleton, 1st Veteran Over 35 and Haydn Jones, 1st Veteran Over 55, Ollie Parry was 2nd Veteran Over 35, Andy Birch 4th Veteran Over 45 and Jenna Middleton 5th Lady Veteran Over 35.

The opening fixture of the Midland Track and Field League Division 6 took place at Banbury, where the Mens' team finished 4th and the Womens' team 6th. In the Mens' match, there were victories for Louis Schofield in the Long Jump A and Edward Barnes in the Long Jump B and in the Womens' match, victories for Rebecca Walker in the High Jump A and Bethan Evans in the Long Jump A. In the second fixture at Hereford, there were victories for Gabe Morris in the 800m A and 3000m Steeplechase A, Patrick McBride in the High Jump A, Discus B and Javelin B, James Hickinbottom in the Javelin A and Greg Dacrymple-White in the Discus A and for the women, Rebecca Walker in the High Jump A and Kati Hulme in the Long Jump A. The seven victories propelled the Mens' team to 1st place on the day, with the Womens' team 7th.

 

Matt Hall stormed to victory at the Park Hall 5K race at Oswestry in a time of 15/48 and over a minute ahead of the second placed runner, with colleagues Rob Fox 5th in 17/10, Richard McKenna 6th in 17/17, Alan Dean 21st in 19/21 and Jo Dean 6th Lady in 21/47. The third fixture in the Telford Sexarathon Series took place, with the staging of the Shropshire 4 Mile race, with Luke Butler first home for the Club in 11th place in 22/24, Nick Bradley 24th in 23/10, Pete Savill 98th and 1st Veteran Over 65 in 27/45 and Gill Evans 154th and 1st Lady Veteran Over 55 in 31/01.

 

On the fell running scene, the 4th fixture in the Shropshire Summer Hill Series took place, with the staging of the Rodney's Pillar Race, with Andy Birch 23rd and 2nd Veteran Over 45 in 25/57, Sara Willhoit 35th and 3rd Lady in 27/16, Haydn Jones 47th and 2nd Veteran Over 55 in 29/01 and Gill Evans 109th and 1st Lady Veteran Over 55 in 35/47. Nick Bradley finished 3rd in the Severn Valley Trail 5K race in 19/00, the day after equalling his personal best 5K time in the Telford Parkrun.
