The Shropshire Summer Hill Race Series has continued with the staging of the Wrekin Streak and Batch Bash Fell races. At the Wrekin, Haydn Jones finished 50th and 3rd Veteran Over 55 in 24/00, Gill Evans 110th and 1st Lady Veteran Over 55 in 30/53 and Bethany Pinches 113th and 2nd Under 19 Girl in 33/02. At the Batch Bash, James Hickinbottom finished 19th in 30/30 and Gill Evans 100th and 1st Lady Veteran Over 55 in 40/46. Four Club athletes were selected to compete for Shropshire at the Inter Counties Fell Race Championships in Derbyshire, where Matt Hall finished 140th in 50/00 and Paul Jones 196th in 51/51 in the Men's Race and Sara Willhoit finished 143rd in 40/18 and Lauren Morley 223rd in 43/07 in the Women's Race.

 

 

The Club was strongly represented at two popular road races. In the Christleton 5K at Chester, Matt Hall was first home for the Club in 15th place in a personal best time of 15/38, with Paul Jones 19th and 3rd Veteran Over 45 in 15/44, Steve Waters 69th in 16/50, Connor Middleton 77th in 16/55, Richard McKenna 93rd in 17/11 and Grant Lloyd 189th in 18/52. In the Market Drayton 10K, Richard Mckenna was 72nd in 39/56, Sara Willhoit 82nd and 5th Lady in 40/13, Mike Thomas 271st in 45/35 and Pete Savill 283rd and 1st Veteran Over 65 in 45/50. In other races, Pete Middleton was 41st in the Great Birmingham 10K in 35/05, Kevin Francis was 18th and 1st Veteran Over 50 in the Uttoxeter Half Marathon in 1/29/41 and Lauren Morley 22nd and 2nd Lady in the Llangollen Trail 10K in 45/29.

 

Three runners competed in the Phoenix Flyer 5K race, the second race in the Telford Sexarathon Series, with Pete Savill 112th and 1st Veteran Over 65 in 20/54, Gill Evans 202nd and 2nd Lady Veteran Over 55 in 24/03 and Alison Wilson 265th and 2nd Lady Veteran Over 60 in 26/18.

 

Relay races tend to bring out the best in athletes, and this year's Attingham Park Relays were no exception. The excellently organised event played host to 423 athletes in 141 teams. With races the day before and the day after some club members chose not to take part in the relays though this didn't stop both teams returning excellent performances. Run over 3 x 2 mile legs on the parkland and trails around Attingham Park Shrewsbury AC 'A' team were 3rd All Male team behind strong competition from Oswestry Olympians and Shropshire Shufflers in a time of 34:15 (Glen Speake – 11:49, 4th Male Over 40, Rob Fox – 10:57, 1st Male Over 35, Nick Bradley – 11:29, 8th Senior Man). Shrewsbury AC 'B' team came home 4th Mixed Gender team in 38:43 (Andy Lewis – 13:20, 2nd Male Over 60, Lauren Morley – 13:09, 4th Senior Lady, Robert Lisney – 12:14, 15th Senior Man).

 

Club veteran Andy Lewis competed in a British Milers Club Regional Track Meeting at Tipton and came away with a new post transplant personal best time of 5 minutes 30.32 seconds in the 1500 metre race.
