Sefton Park Euro Cross Country Trials 25.11.23

28 Nov 2023
It was a cold, but glorious day at Sefton park for the euro XC trials. The Shrewsbury athletes took aim at the course and hit the bullseye.
All of our athletes pitched up against the best the UK can offer and came away from the event with their heads held high. The kids had great fun which was the main focus and the fact we had lots of TV time and some amazing placings is just a massive bonus.
Ben was first up in the U11 boys race and competed well and never gave up crossing the line in 131rd, in a race he will get to run in again next year.
We sent out a team of four for the U11 girls race. Roni was our first home in 3rd today and getting some great TV time. There were also some amazing runs from Selina (25) Arya (42) and Norah (59). Norah will no doubt want to beat Roni’s 3rd place in this race next year.
In the U13 boys race it was clear from the offset that Oscar and Charlie were going to be up against it, as some of their opponents were much, much bigger. That being said, Oscar was in the first pack until the last 800m and managed to finish 9th. Charlie sporting a nice pair of Nike Dragonfly Xc’s did remarkable to come 66th as he had been poorly all week. Great stuff considering both of them are lower years and very young lower years.
Chloe and Elsa were next up in the U15 girls race and I swear I had already seen Chloe’s Nike Dragonfly spikes on another athlete already that day . Chloe and Elsa were amazing and really stormed up the home straight for a 26th and 56th respectively. Well done girls!
Toby competed in his first ever race for SAC in a field which had world record holders and other world class athletes. Toby did awesome and came 94th and I hope this has given him the bug to want to race in more competitions.
Beth found herself against the U17 and U20 woman and given she is a lover year U17, she did remarkable to come home in 30th in what could had now become a very boggy course.
The last of the juniors to run today was Zac who managed to come home in 88th place in the U17 race. A massive well done to Zac!
The final athlete of the day to compete was Liam in the senior men’s race. Liam came home in 96th place in a massive field and that was quite a monumental achievement. We hope he goes from strength to strength after this amazing performance.
We as the Junior XC managers are absolutely thrilled with how the athletes have started the XC season. We are dominating the local leagues and doing amazing when we step up to the bigger regional and national events.
A massive well done to all!
