Shropshire County Cross Country Championships 2024

14 Jan 2024
Saturday 6th January saw the juniors join our seniors at Attingham park for the Shropshire County Championships. We had runners in all age groups from U13 to U17 and we managed to grab lots of individual and team medals.
First up were the U13 girls, and going in to this race we would have been favourites to win. Our girls repelled a spirited fight from the girls at Telford and we held on for team gold. Megan was 2nd home closely followed by Libby in 4th, Emma-Jayne 6th, Tilly 9th and Amelie in 11th. This was a great run from the team. Megan, Libby and Emma-Jayne have qualified for the Inter-counties in March in Nottingham off the back of this run.
The U13 boys team was always going to be close judging by the recent SYAL results and our boys came home second closely behind a strong Wrekin team. Oscar came 3rd in a hard fought battle with Isaac from Wrekin and Ian from Telford and our next runners home were Mohammed in 5th, Charlie in 8th, Harry in 10th, Rufus 13th in his first ever race and Thomas in 17th. Oscar and Mohammed have qualified for the inter-counties and Charlie also finished in the top 8, so there is a good chance he will fill one of the discretionary places. Well done boys!
In the U15 girls we won team gold with Chloe 1st and Elsa 2nd with Maisey 7th and Olivia 8th. Chloe and Elsa have qualified for the inter-counties and Maisey and Olivia are in the two discretionary places. So fingers crossed all the girls get selected.
Our U15 boys were up against a strong team from Telford and we managed to get the team silver with Sam coming in 6th and qualifying for the inter-counties and Toby finishing 9th, Josh 10th and Charlie 14th.
Our final team absolutely bossed it. The U17 boys got team Gold and came home in 2nd, 3rd and 4th all very close together with Adam leading the way closely followed by Joe and Jake. All three have qualified for the inter- counties.
It was another impressive showing from the juniors and I hope the kids know how proud we are of them today. There were of course lots of smiles which is the most important thing.
Parents have supplied numerous photos from the event. If you want any photo removed please let me know.
